Most Goals for a Single Club 🥅🏅⚽️
🐐 Lionel Messi, with 672 goals
Lionel Messi’s career has been nothing short of magisterial.
The man from Argentina has won 7 Ballon D’ors, 4 Champions Leagues; and (finally!) a World Cup for his country! And…he’s still adding to his list of records. You’d be forgiven for missing it, but Leo broke the World Cup match appearance record in that sensational 2022 final against France.

However, amongst all of the records that Messi holds, there’s one that stands out.
And, although we’re keeping a close eye on Haaland’s goal scoring rate, we think Lionel Messi’s 672 goals for FC Barcelona is damn near unbreakable!

What was Messi’s Scoring Record for FC Barcelona?
In total, Messi scored 672 goals for FC Barcelona in all competitions.
And as the following breakdown of Messi’s FC Barcelona goals shows, numbers further,, this is a record that we think won’t ever be broken.
17 Seasons with Barca
Messi made his first team debut for Barcelona in 2004/05 season aged just 17 years old. He went on to play a full 17 seasons for FC Barcelona.
Average of 40 goals per season
Obviously some seasons involve more games than others, but averaged out over his 17 seasons with Barcelona, Messi scored an average of 40 goals per season!
Hat-tricks, hat-tricks, hat-tricks
Messi banged in a staggering 48 hat-tricks for FC Barcelona. He also holds the La Liga hat-trick record with 36 hat-tricks in Spain’s top league.

The Best of The Rest
When it comes to the top goalscorers for one club, Messi is in illustrious company…
2. Pele
The dynamic attacking midfielder scored a total of 643 goals for Santos FC.
3. Gerd Müller
The German striker known as “Der Bomber” scored 566 goals for FC Bayern Munich.
4. Fernando Peyroteo
Fernando Baptista de Seixas Peyroteo de Vasconcelos was a striker from Portugal who scored 544 goals for Sporting CP.
5. Josef Bican
A lightning quick striker, Josef Bican scored 543 goals for SK Slavia Prague.
Why is Messi the GOAT?
As fans, it’s not just the goals, the outrageous skills, or assists that we love. It’s the dedication, the respect and the loyalty that a player shows to the club. Messi gave all of that and more to FC Barcelona.
There’s also something special about a footballer who makes it through the youth system, benefiting from the club’s support and tutelage all the way through, and then repays their club with consistent performances and loyalty.
Considering the current direction that football is going, with massive transfer fees and huge player wages turning even the most loyal players’ heads, we think it’s highly unlikely that Messi’s record of the most goals for a single club will be broken.
